THE CUSTOMER
The project was developed for a long-standing Ortea partner in the Middle East, operating in an industrial context with different plant requirements, demanding environmental conditions and highly specific technical needs.
The supply was intended for industrial installations where energy efficiency, power quality and electrical equipment reliability are key factors for operational continuity.
THE NEED
The customer needed to improve the power factor of its industrial plants, reducing the negative effects caused by an excessive presence of reactive energy in the internal electrical network.
A low power factor leads to higher circulating current for the same amount of useful power required. This can result in higher losses, overload on transformers and lines, voltage drops, reduced power availability for the plant and, where provided for in the electricity supply contract, possible penalties applied by the utility.
The need was therefore to adopt a power factor correction solution capable of making the electrical distribution more efficient and stable, improving the use of available power and contributing to operational continuity even under particularly demanding environmental and application conditions.
OUR SOLUTION
Ortea developed a custom supply of automatic LV power factor correction systems, engineered in 19 different ratings from 100 to 1825 kvar and configured for four voltage levels: 400 V, 440 V, 460 V and 480 V.
All units were equipped with harmonic blocking reactors tuned to 216 Hz, helping improve operating reliability and protect capacitors in networks affected by harmonic distortion. For the 440 V, 460 V and 480 V configurations, dedicated disconnectors and purpose-designed capacitors were also specified.
The design of the higher-power units required dedicated technical work on dimensioning currents, electrodynamic withstand, internal switchboard layout and heat dissipation. In this way, Ortea delivered a solution aligned with real operating conditions, confirming its ability to turn complex requirements into robust, efficient and reliable equipment for industrial energy efficiency.
