THE CLIENT

An Italian company belonging to a large multinational delivering integrated infrastructure solutions for the global railway industry, requiring repeat supplies of dedicated transformers for UPS systems.

 

THE NEED

In railway infrastructure, continuity is a system requirement-non-compliance affects reliability and safety. UPS transformers must meet strict specifications: compatibility with 12-pulse rectifiers, harmonic-related losses and thermal limits, required Vcc%/Xcc%, controlled inrush and no-load currents, tight footprints and compliance with dedicated railway standards. On top of engineering, the project demanded batch-to-batch consistency and timed deliveries.

 

OUR SOLUTION

Ortea delivered a specification-driven design using a controlled multi-physics approach (magnetic + thermal + mechanical) and an industrialisation plan focused on repeatability: precise inter-winding impedance/leakage targets, core/material choices to control losses and heating under harmonics, mechanical layout and terminals aligned to installation constraints, and repeatable verification/testing. The supply was structured as an annual programme with quarterly deliveries, ensuring continuity and consistent performance across batches.
