THE CLIENT
An Italian manufacturer of technical injection-moulded plastic components, with automated lines and continuous production, focused on high volumes and reliable deliveries.
THE NEED
Micro interruptions (even just a few milliseconds) caused faults on drives and PLCs, stopping the presses and leading to immediate consequences: interrupted cycles, material potentially solidifying in the mould, increased scrap, long restart times and an impact on OEE.
A solution was needed to protect against very short disturbances, avoiding the complexity and maintenance typical of large battery-based UPS systems.
OUR SOLUTION
Ortea Next supplied a 1000 kVA Oxygen Zero K, a battery-less compensator based on IGBTs and supercapacitors. In the event of a micro interruption or a total voltage loss, it responds in less than 5 ms, keeping output voltage within nominal limits and then returning seamlessly to the grid.
The configuration includes integrated protections, an interlocked manual bypass, output SPD and connectivity for supervision.
Result: greater process stability, reduced line stoppages and less scrap linked to grid events.
