250-300 special Multimatic per year for the Middle East

THE CUSTOMER

The customer is a long-standing partner and distributor of Ortea in Saudi Arabia, which is very keen on buying high-end products.

THE NEED

The customer’s need was for equipment that could operate at high ambient temperatures and therefore had appropriate technical characteristics.

OUR SOLUTION

The technological solutions suitable for operating in these areas are the special automatic power factor correction systems derived from the standard Multimatic FH30 series of Ortea’s ICAR brand. These automatic power factor correction systems are designed to operate without derating up to an ambient temperature of 52°C. This is achieved through a careful selection of components, which guarantee excellent performance even in the most challenging climatic conditions.

The technical features that allow this equipment to operate in areas with high temperatures are as follows:

  • Use of black-coloured three-phase capacitors: the black-painted capacitor housing allows for better heat dissipation. In addition, the choice of using three-phase capacitors provides for simpler wiring and consequently more efficient maintenance.
  • Circuit breaker protection: each capacitor drawer is protected by a moulded case circuit breaker with a breaking capacity of more than 50kA. This provides effective protection in the event of both overload and short-circuit, ensuring safe and reliable operation.
  • High-performance cables: the power and auxiliary cables used are of the double-insulated 0.6/1kV type, designed to operate up to a temperature of 90°C, well above the 70°C of cables normally used in equipment. This feature reduces cable overheating, increasing the reliability of the entire system.
  • Class H harmonic blocking reactances: The blocking reactances are in temperature class H and tuned to 135Hz (p=13.7%). This technical detail is crucial for equipment protection and efficiency, reducing the risk of damage due to the possible presence of harmonic currents generated by non-linear loads.
  • Enhanced ventilation system: the ventilation system is equipped with a double air inlet grille that guarantees the maintenance of a suitable operating temperature. This system extends the life of the components.
  • Protection in IP21/IP31: achieved through the use of a protection pagoda that guarantees protection in the event of vertical water fall.

These special automatic power factor correction systems have undergone the type tests required by the IEC 61921 standard at the independent IPH laboratory in Berlin, and have been awarded CESI certification.

This certifies the excellence and conformity of the equipment to the most stringent international standards.
