OXYGEN COMPENSATORS FOR STABLE ENERGY AT THE AIRPORT

OXYGEN COMPENSATORS FOR STABLE ENERGY AT THE AIRPORT

In a crucial testing phase, 2 of the 4 Oxygen voltage compensators, key technological instruments for energy stability, were destined for a major international European airport. The voltage compensators, which are particularly distinctive thanks to their yellow-coloured carpentry – a choice desired by the customer to ensure visibility – are a key element in the operational continuity of complex facilities such as airports.

Following a previous delivery in 2019, in which three Oxygen tension compensators were supplied, the customer, extremely satisfied with the results obtained and in view of a project to expand the gates, decided to invest further in tension compensator technology, ordering four more.

Advantages of the Oxygen compensators

This new order includes 2 x 500kVA and 2 x 320kVA Oxygen voltage compensators, equipped to handle input voltage fluctuations of ±10% and to compensate voltage drops of up to -40%. The Oxygen, designed for indoor environments with IP54 specifications, have the fundamental task of powering and protecting the electronics of the new underground conveyor lines. These lines, designed to improve the efficiency of baggage transport directly to the gates, rely heavily on voltage compensators to guarantee energy stability for sophisticated and sensitive electronic devices.

It is well known that the more modern a piece of equipment is, the greater its need for voltage compensation. The increase in renewable energy generation installations has led to a higher incidence of voltage dips and fluctuations. Fortunately, Oxygen voltage compensators, with their appropriately dimensioned power components and extremely fast response speed, are able to effectively handle these critical issues.

Voltage compensation on the primary winding of the buck/boost transformer is performed by IGBT static switches controlled by a microcontroller. The microcontroller system controls the output voltage and determines the opening or closing of the IGBTs ensuring the best regulation.
The use of double-conversion technology guarantees isolation from mains disturbances and distortions and, together with the use of electrolytic capacitors, makes it possible to build machines for high loads.

The innovation in the Oxygen voltage compensators is also reflected in their models, which are capable of covering voltage drops of up to 50% of the nominal value. The technology used, based on a microcontroller system and IGBT static switches, ensures high-quality voltage compensation.
Finally, the range of Oxygen voltage compensators extends in different models, from the Oxygen 10-40 to the OxygenK 15-50, with different specifications according to energy compensation requirements. In particular, the K model stands out for its advanced functionality, being equipped with additional circuit breakers.
